I was just viewing old posts yesterday and was happy that even Technocrat's avatar was showing up. And then suddenly, none of them work..

It doesn't matter what browser I use, and it doesn't matter what computer I use. All 3 computers in the house (haven't checked my brother's computers yet) do the same thing.

Except now your avatar works.

Remember when I spliced the databases together? I didn't mess with the phpbb_config table, because it would have screwed everything up. In the phpbb_config table there is a field called 'form_salt'. It is used for encoding/decoding avatars, among other things. Long story short--phpbb_users table has your avatar stored in it using the form salt from phpbb_config. Since the forum was upgraded and I needed to use the upgraded table version of phpbb_config, it has a new form salt, and all the avatar entries in phpbb_users are encoded with the old form salt. As everyone's browser caches finally start expiring, it's looking to refresh the image cache but it's being pointed to the wrong location because of the form salt.

If that makes sense.

Upload a new avatar and it will be encoded with the correct form salt.

Edit: The field is 'avatar_salt' not 'form_salt', which is in the phpbb_users table, and is used to encode passwords and email addresses.

ok correction, there is no 'form_salt' in phpbb_config, but I know it has *something* to do with that.

Edit: appropriately, the field is 'avatar_salt'.
